About the Author<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gabrielle Lacelle, D.C., M.Ed. was born in southwest Saskatchewan where she pursued a career in education. Eventually, she worked in community organizing which led to co-ordinating social justice projects nationally. In 1981, she began studies to pursue her lifelong dream to become a chiropractor; from 1985-2012 she established a multidisciplinary wellness clinic in British Columbia\u2019s Fraser Valley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her ongoing interest in exploring her ancestry led her to various sites in both Europe and Canada. The discovery of her Acadian roots in particular, resulted in an extensive search of her maternal grandmother\u2019s Acadian ancestors\u2019 trajectory during the nine-year Acadian expulsion which began in 1755. Her research led to numerous trips to both Nova Scotia and New Brunswick where she worked with the Centre d\u2019\u00c9tudes Acadiennes at the Universit\u00e9 de Moncton, NB.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In August 2024, Gabrielle attended the seventh Congr\u00e8s Mondial Acadien, held on the southwestern shores of Nova Scotia, where an estimated ten thousand Acadians from around the world gathered to share their stories, explore their roots, and celebrate their heritage.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

On August 11, 2024, over 500 Comeau descendents attended their family reunion in Saulnierville, NS parish hall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Acadian flag was adopted at the 1884 National Convention of Acadians in Miscouche, PEI. The tricolour acknowledges the Acadians’ french ancestry and the yellow star represents “Stella Maris,” Star of the Sea<\/em>, to seek protection from the Virgin Mary. It indicates hope for a guiding light in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
